In small towns and rural counties, high school and youth sports are a big deal. The competitions are normally attended well and cheers from the crowd can help motivate the competitors on the field. When all is said and done and the game comes to an end what could be the most important thing for players and fans that happened during the event?
Greetings and blessings! Once again, on our nation’s 250th birthday month of July, I respectfully continue to appreciate, celebrate, and most importantly to educate.
The 250th birthday celebration of our country has come and gone but it does not have to end just yet. My wife had to work on Independence Day, so I took time to enjoy some wind therapy. For those unfamiliar, that means getting out on a motorcycle and cruising with no particular place to go and no hurry to get there – just enjoying the ride and wind. Anyone who rides motorcycles can explain the experience.
I won’t lie - there are things that come up in life that I really don’t want to do. In many cases, they just don’t get done. In other cases, I pay people for doing it. I’ve always believed there are two kinds of people in the world - those who do things, and those who pay others to do things. I have always fallen into the second category.
If you normally read my column, you might remember a column I wrote in March stating my concerns with HB 1009. The law goes into effect next school year but the question remains what affect will it have on administrators and teachers who are charged to enforce it. Or, at least it leaves a question in my mind.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show back in the 1980s, the late comedian George Gobel asked a very poignant question: “Did you ever feel as if the world was a tuxedo and you were a pair of brown shoes?” Lonesome George hit the nail on the head. I’ve felt that way most of my life.
In this hurry up, fast paced world we live in people say newspapers are dieing. But a newspaper that keeps its community ties, in my opinion, will continue to survive.
