Greetings and blessings! Unfortunately, nowadays the ugly, destructive devil is extremely busy trying to devout/destroy our younger generation. So, out of an abundance of love and concern; I’m literally pleading with families to spend time praying for our children.
Having been a newsperson for years, it’s hard to shock me easily. Sometimes, however, there are some funny news stories to be shared that can put a smile on your face and here are a few I hope you can enjoy.
Tattoos. When I say that word, I'm sure it invokes a lot of different emotions for many people. Some people think they're tacky, some people think they go against the Bible, some people think they're only associating with criminals. Some people think they're a waste of money. Some people think that people who get tattoos must just enjoy pain.
Not too terribly long ago, I had been reflecting on how much time had passed since I heard the voice of the Baseball Curmudgeon who lives inside my head, Homer K. Frink. You know what they say about such thoughts? They are right. Frink made his presence known, and he has demanded my column space this week. At first I wasn’t sure what old Homer wanted to vent about, but the more I listened the more I realized he had something important to say about baseball and he needed to say it quickly. So, Mr. Frink, take the floor. The microphone is yours. Say what you have to say.
The words of John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton ring as true today as they did when he wrote them in 1887. Lord Action was an English historian, politician and writer, and in a letter written to an Aglican bishop that he included these words, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
ANYONE that drives long enough will inevitably make a wrong turn. When that happens, a simple U-turn can serve to get one back on track – no muss, no fuss. At the beginning of last week, the Harris County Commissioners were set to hire a person as the new county manager. It appeared to be a done deal, just waiting for a formal vote during an upcoming regular meeting.
When I was a little boy, my father absolutely loved to watch professional wrestling on television. He was the kind of viewer who looked as if he was in the ring with the wrestlers, twisting and moving and throwing imaginary punches.
I love history. What we can learn from it, what we learned about the past and times long ago. History is important. And we all have our own history.
Have you ever had one of those days when you just wanted to forget everything you ever knew about something? There are times that I would like to be able to and recently it was about computers. Now I don’t know a great deal about computers, but what I do know was self learned because, having to work on a computer every day you are going to have problems and you can’t wait for a tech or spend money every time some little something goes wrong.
What a self-serving fraud. If you ever wanted to see an unelected bureaucrat backed into a corner, you saw it last week. The phrase, “I respectfully decline to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution” has been utilized before but never as it was last week as Dr. Anthony Fauci was questioned by members of Congress.
