On Aug. 5, the derelict upper stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket slammed into the Moon’s surface. For some time it has been known this was going to happen and it gave astronomers ample opportunity to view the results.

Road Work Awarded to Robinson Paving

During last week’s meeting, the Harris County Commission unanimously approved the bid of Robinson Paving/ The Scruggs Company to perform LRA road projects in the county. County officials had submitted a list of roads needing repair to Georgia Department of Transportation as part of the 2026 Local Road Assistance Project.

Sometimes a U-Turn is a Good Move

ANYONE that drives long enough will inevitably make a wrong turn. When that happens, a simple U-turn can serve to get one back on track – no muss, no fuss. At the beginning of last week, the Harris County Commissioners were set to hire a person as the new county manager. It appeared to be a done deal, just waiting for a formal vote during an upcoming regular meeting.

Can’t Follow Science From a Fraudster

What a self-serving fraud. If you ever wanted to see an unelected bureaucrat backed into a corner, you saw it last week. The phrase, “I respectfully decline to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution” has been utilized before but never as it was last week as Dr. Anthony Fauci was questioned by members of Congress.

Purple Heart Dedication Saturday

A dual Purple Heart Dedication is scheduled for Saturday in Hamilton. At 1 pm on the Courthouse steps, a commemorative celebration will be held recognizing Hamilton as the latest city in the county to become a Purple Heart city and Harris County becoming a Purple Heart county. Both the city and county have completed the requirements to become Purple Heart entities and the ceremony caps the designation.

Andy’s Astronomy: Home After 241 Days

Sunday was the culmination of a very long space visit for three space farers. At 6:27 Eastern the Soyuz MS-28 landed bringing astronaut Chris Williams along with cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev back to Earth. The three men had spent 241 days on the International Space Station.

Search Narrowed for New County Manager

And then there was one. It appears as though the Harris County Commissioners have narrowed the search for a new County Manager to a single person – Barry G. Brooks.

FOCUS Strikes Out With Hamilton Council

By a 3-2 vote, the Hamilton City Council voted against FOCUS consolidating its operations during Monday’s meeting. In a very rare occurrence for a Hamilton council meeting, it was a true standing-room only crowd. Most of those attending were in support of FOCUS, or Fellowship of Christians United for Service, with many of those serving with the organization.
