Work Continues on Greenville Football Field

The Greenville City Council received an update on work being done to the former Greenville Middle School football field at their meeting May 5.

The update showed that the field has had its bleachers and exterior restrooms painted. The women’s restroom facilities are working, but those in the men’s restroom need new valves, which have been ordered. The lights in the restrooms will be replaced, and final touch-ups such as handrails and a second coat of paint on the bleachers, have been planned.

The city is holding a fundraising initiative with a paver program underway. Participants can purchase 15-inch hexagonal pavers and have six lines of text engraved on the pavers, up to 20 characters per line. Applications for the pavers will be distributed, and the deadline for getting the paver orders in will be June 30.

The Public Works department told the Council that the city’s Kubota tractor has been sent to Waverly Hall for cylinder/front-load attachment and new front tires, and it will be out of service for three to four weeks.

The Downtown Development Association told the Council that they convene on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at South Depot. The group is currently focusing on signage and outreach initiatives aimed at promoting awareness of development endeavors. They also discuss pertinent ordinances and policy adjustments.

The next regular meeting of the Greenville City Council will be Tuesday, June 2, at 6 p.m.
