State Senate Bill 449 will “grant parents explicit rights regarding oversight of their child’s education including the right to direct the upbringing and the moral or religious training of their minor child and the right to review all instructional materials intended for the use in the classroom of their child”! As if all teachers don’t have enough to do to just be effective teachers on a daily basis. Their salaries are not adequate for all the work that they do after four years of college, which leaves many of them in debt for years. They have a lot on their plates without a new law allowing highly emotional parents who too often to virtually harass teachers over subjects that most parents know little, if anything, about! All for paltry salaries and too many hours of work. This new law will be the frosting on the cake that will cause too many talented teachers to quit! They have had to survive COVID-19 and a pandemic, yet are not required to be vaccinated or wear masks; yet they have to encounter parents, school staff and fellow teachers who are not vaccinated! This Senate Bill 449 would be the crowning straw to break the camel’s back of our beloved school teachers! Please call our state legislators and ask them not to vote for Senate Bill 449.
