Houston County (4-4, 2-2 Region 2-6A) picked up another dominant win over county rival Veterans on Friday, 42-0.

That marked the third shutout of the Warhawks in five tries under Jeremy Edwards in a much needed win for the Bears, who’d lost four of their last five going into the contest.

Now, back at .500, HoCo will face one last county foe next week as they head up the road to play Northside.

Northside

Northside (3-5, 1-3 Region 2-6A) held a 7-3 lead at halftime, but Coffee scored 34 unanswered in the final two quarters to win 37-7 in Douglas.

That’s now the fourth loss in five games for the Eagles. Their offense has scored seven points in the last eight quarters of football, too.

With their road schedule finished, Northside will face Houston County at home next week.

Perry

Perry (4-4, 3-1 Region 2-5A) reached .500 for the first time on Friday with their 44-0 victory against Union Grove.

The defense earned their first shutout and forced quarterback Tristin Sharpe into two interceptions. They also held the rushing attack to 19 yards on 19 carries.

The offense scored 44 or more points for the third straight game as the Panthers remain challengers for the region championship.

Perry will head on the road for their final two games of the season, the first against Eagle’s Landing next week.

Veterans

Veterans (4-4, 1-3 Region 2-6A) lost to Houston County for the seventh time in a row in a 42-0 shutout effort for the Bears.

The Warhawks have lost three in a row, been held scoreless for the last two weeks and are back to .500 for the first time since Aug. 28 after their win against Trinity Christian.

Next they face Tift County, who is the only team in 2-6A yet to win a region game.

Warner Robins

Warner Robins (5-3, 3-1 Region 2-5A) fell behind and couldn’t climb back against Ola in a 35-21 loss on Friday.

Mustangs quarterback Caden Worley only threw the ball 10 times and finished with 226 yards and a touchdown to go with running back Jaquan Adams’ 153 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Ola was without four-star Caden Waye.

The Demons are no longer in sole control of 2-5A, but there are still four teams with one region loss in what will be a competitive finish.

Next is Jones County on the road.

Westfield

With their 46-26 win over Terrell Academy, Westfield (6-3, 3-0 GIAA District 3-3A) has officially three-peated as district champions. This is their fourth district title in four years under Chad Campbell.

Even if the Hornets were to lose to Deerfield-Windsor next week and Tiftarea Academy (only one-loss team in 3-3A) beat Terrell Academy, Westfield holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over both.

The Hornets haven’t won a district game by less than 20 and are winners of three in a row after a 1-3 stretch to end their non-district schedule.

Their regular season finale is on the road next week at Deerfield-Windsor.
