Centerville council hears quick update on utility department

CENTERVILLE — The city of Centerville may have broken a record with their latest meeting on Tuesday, July 16, with a meeting spanning two minutes long.

Although it was quick, the city heard information from utlilities surrounding a crucial purchase for the department. According to Director of Operations Mike Brumfield, the stormwater department purchased two Ford F-150 trucks. 

The department made its first purchase earlier in the year, and used the sale price to compare bids for their second purchase, Brumfield said. The first vehicle was purchased from Phil Brannen Ford of Perry for around $49,900.

The dealership was again the lowest bid, prompting another purchase, this time for $47,800.

“That’s how much difference there is in about a month’s time in ordering vehicles. Right now, they’re hard to come by, but we’ve already purchased these trucks.” Brumfield said.

Council approved the first purchase in April. Since the purchases were pre-existing budget line items, it required no action from council in the latest meeting.
