Houston County (2-2) faced their second of two high-scoring offenses when they faced off against Westlake on Friday, but the Lions remained undefeated in a 61-51 shootout.

The Bears’ defense just couldn’t stop explosive plays. The secondary was torched multiple times on long touchdown passes that went as far as 70-plus yards. Missed tackles turned short gains into big runs and oftentimes touchdowns.

Austin Stinson still had himself a day, as did the entire HoCo offense, but it just wasn’t enough.

Now the Bears head into their second bye week before taking on Tift County to open region play.

Northside

Northside was off this week. They head across town to play Veterans next week in their region opener.

Perry

Perry (1-4, 0-1 Region 2-5A) led 13-0 early, but Ola took off from there as the Mustangs claimed the road victory, 35-19.

The Panthers’ 19 points is a new season low after they scored 40 and 48 against Northeast-Macon and Howard respectively. Most of their scoring was done in the first quarter.

They’ll head back out on the road to play Locust Grove next week.

Veterans

Veterans (3-1) officially finished their three-game road trip undefeated after another close victory, this one against Sumter County, 21-15.

This is the Warhawks’ longest winning streak since 2020, when they started 4-0 under Milan Turner. That team finished 4-6.

Now Veterans faces the task of one of the most difficult regions in Georgia, and they start with Northside at home next week.

Warner Robins

Warner Robins (3-2, 1-0 Region 2-5A) got their much-needed bounce back game against Union Grove on Friday, 69-29.

After losing to Newton 70-14 and Northside 32-10, the Demons’ offense found some steam as they rolled against the Wolverines on the road.

That win has Warner Robins tied with Ola and Jones County for first place. Next on the region schedule is Eagle’s Landing as the Demons finish up their three-game road trip.

Westfield

Westfield’s (3-3) road woes continued as they fell to the reigning GIAA 4A champion Stratford Eagles 49-14 on Friday.

Stratford has put up some big offensive numbers this season, but they set a new season-high against the Hornets at home.

Westfield’s bye weeks are stacked together, so they have two weeks off before they play Tiftarea Academy in their district opener.
